Fortunately, there is one career mode trick that helps prevent aging players from losing their stats too quickly. If you go into Development Plans and assign them a position they don’t know (one that shows up as N/A for the estimated training time), their rating will decrease much more slowly. If you manage them well, they could even remain effective until their 40s!
